Those of you in the US probably already know about this, but I just found out about it now.

"Kramer" from Seinfeld, Micheal Richards, went apeshit on stage recently and started going off with these really racist remarks... it's terrible.

It's not like it was one badly timed joke, or a slip of the tongue. He keeps going ON AND ON.

He made an apology on Letterman.

I still don't buy his apology. There is no excuse for that shit.

If you are interested, watch these now, I have a feeling they'll be taken down soon... well the Letterman one at least.

That really surprised me that he did that. I always thought he was so funny on "Seinfeld", but . . . wow.

Yeah, it came out of nowhere. Who knew? It's just terrible, the way he keeps going on and on...

he's a jackass. i don't see how he can do or say anything to recover whatever scrap of a career he still had.

rummors are starting that he's attacked jews in the audience in a similar way a few years ago. his rep said it's part of his act.

whatever! :-\

It's disgusting how blatently violent it was, you know? It's obviously not part of the act... god it's just terrible. Every time I watch Seinfeld I'm gonna think about it.

i know, geez, i feel violated watching it, i can't imgine what it was like in that club that night! it was disgusting.

poor jerry, i hope he doesn't lose anything from this, seeing that michael richards is still SO associated with 'seinfeld' he's barely done a thing since then.

I'm sure Jerry'll be okay. He's got enough fame and money as it is! ;)

heh, very true! ;)

jerry's statement in case you missed it: "I am sick over this. I'm sure Michael is also sick over this horrible, horrible mistake. It is so extremely offensive. I feel terrible for all the people who have been hurt."

It does suck that he'll now be associate with it. He never did anything, of course, but you know, you can't think of Seinfeld without thinking of Kramer... or KKKramer as I've now seen him called. :P

we talked about it in english class since we're studying a Satire unit. Somebody brought it up, so yeah, its kinda shame that he did that. Most Americans now-a-days know better than not to do that.

I buy his apology, only because he really did look completely floored in the interview. He was completely uncomposed and dazed there, and I believe he really is stunned by his own behaviour. That's no excuse, and I seriously think he needs to seek counseling, but I suppose it's a start.

And yeah, I have to agree with what someone else posted... his career is done. What little he had of one. -.- (And selfishly, it annoys me that I'll never look at Kramer the same way now.)

I know what you mean, I was a huge Kramer fan. Oh well... another one bites the dust.

What the hell was up with that apology? he was like "It wasn't me...it was...the war in iraq!" and then he was all "black people should rally together because of racism like this!"....that HE perpetrated. What a knob.

I know! What the hell did Hurricane Katrina have to do with it? Whatever. What little was left of his career is officially over. No one is gonna forget about this.

Then people should not allow Black comedians to use slurs against the whites. Why is it that everytime a white person gets up and says one word about Blacks everyone has to go crazy over it?

But nothing gets said against Bill Cosby, Eddie Murphy, Richard Pryor or any other Black comedian who goes off on the Whites.

I have no problem with Michael Richards. Personally I have a problem with Black people getting all bent out of shape over it. They use words like that with each other and it doesn't make headlines.

I am sick of how overly sensitive everyone has to get over a stupid word.

It's not the word itself, it's the nature of the tone behind the word, and all the other shit he said, and how blatenly violent he seemed as he spit it out. Plus, words used against white people, such as "cracker," "honkey," and whatnot do not have the same connotation as the n-word, and everyone knows that. Comparing them is ridiculous. And as far as blacks using it themselves... well, it's the same principle... it's not the word itself, it's the tone and connotation behind it. Two black people calling each other "my nigga" in a friendly manner, and a man angrily calling a black person a "nigger" is NOT the same thing.

All those other comedians, as far as I know, have never been rageful (is that a word?) like that in their comedy. Even Richard Pryor at his most frantic has never affected people like Richards managed to do. Plenty of comedians, black, white, and every other color, poke fun at whites AND blacks. There is a difference between satire/comedy/social commentary and blatent, uncalled for racist remarks. And I think Richards stepped waaaaay over that line.

I think you hit the nail on the head here. Although that word is volatile in and of itself, it's how you say something just as much as what you say. It was quite clear he meant what he was saying, and not in a remotely satirical sense.

I dunno, I'm not completely disgusted. I don't condone his actions, or anything, but do you think there would've been as much backlash if he had been making ethnic comments about... say, Irish, or Scottish, or Dutch people? I doubt it. Racism isn't exclusive to black people.

You're right, but still, we all know that the n-word has a history and connotation behind it that somehow makes it waaaay more venemous than a slur against Irish/Dutch/whatever people. I'm not saying rasicm against ANYONE is okay. I'm just really disappointed and disgusted that someone whose work I admire would stoop so low. And it's the *way* in which he suddenly exlodes that makes me wonder...
