Writer's Block: Happy birthday Mr. President!

OMG, just get national healthcare already!!! I really don't know what people are so scared of... having now lived in two countries with socialized medicine, I can say from experience that it is a WONDERFUL thing. The problem is that the US will never do it RIGHT. Obama's original ideas were great, but due to America's fear of "socialism," they've been watered down so much that they really aren't going to make the system work like it should. People should have affordable healthcare, period. It is a basic human right. It is one of the main reasons I have no plans to leave Japan any time soon, and hope to return to England rather than back home to the US if I ever do.

I agree fully. I grew up in Canada, and the idea that I could be in debt for the rest of my life if I get in some sort of terrible accident now that I'm in the states is horrifying. Seriously horrifying.

Hallelujah! Preach it! I've lived in Japan and France and got great care but even with PERSONAL experience people still tell me I'm wrong...to my face. It's ridiculous.

Amen! My parents are very Republican so during that health care debate I was always hearing about how awful it was that my parents' health coverage might suffer. And I thought, quite honestly, so what? You're insured! A good friend had to go to the emergency room and undergo a hospital stay for a pulmonary embolism, and she had no insurance at the time. I don't know how much medical debt she has, but it'll be years before she pays that off. Why is health care seen as a business?

On a happier note, did you see that women's preventative care will now be free? No co-pay for contraceptives! Or wellness exams, or all sorts of necessary things. That pleased me muchly.

Good luck with the heat! I hope it's not too awful. ♥

Hear hear - though our current government are buggering around with ours...
